Advertising is everywhere, no one escapes it, it shapes the world of images in which we live. Ephemeral nature has become one of the essential components of our visual world constructed by photographic images multiplied on the walls of cities and in the pages of magazines. In this abundant and collective production float few names that truly deserve the epithet "creators". Jean-Paul Goude for thirty years is part of the very small number of artists who have seized what the zeitgeist has more subtle to build a work that defies time. He proposed during his long career some images that have most marked our collective memory. Whether a work order for big brands or genuine commercial institutions such as Galeries Lafayette. The work presented in this retrospective pose a fundamental question, and is not in this area considered marginal toda, as it expresses the most creative minds of our time.
"Meeting with an insatiable images copyright storyteller whose creations hold a special place in the collective everyday heritage since the last century.
    A condensed Goudemalion.
' That's pretty much it in that I took my journey as a parameter while expressing myself differently. We will not show objects or installations, for against one naturally show photos but drawings and a new film about fifty minutes. The fact that the museum is named Theatre of Photography and Image is perfect for me, especially as I am an artist called "multidisciplinary". And then, when I saw this beautiful theater ... I would have been the king of fools not to react !'
Everything begins in Saint-Mande. I was born in 1940 at a time when France still possessed colonies. I only have very few documents from that time, but enough so that we understand the atmosphere in which my childhood was immersed and which is very much in the direction that has taken my work. If a little boy, I was much too young to have time to admire naked women, I could however still fantasize about African beauties, Asian and North African - all more or less bare - carved in front of the museum colonies hundred yards from us. As for the well-meaning character comics or westerns that I was using the time frantically with my buddies, I took them completely at face value. I was always on the side of PeauxRouges "African warriors, muscles, bows, arrows, and dance, especially if it was tribal.
I must say that my mother - American dancer exiled in France for the love of my father. - Had set up a small school of ballet in Saint-Mande and his work "choreographer 'fascinated me at home, everyone was talking about dancing (dancing well or not, which had a lot of foot or a bad head carriage, etc.).

That's my legacy is what is the basis of my work: the taste of the exotic, the body, the drawn image, music, dance and especially the style.
I often have the impression that it's related to my blood, or at least to an Irish tradition. In fact, my mother was an American of Irish descent, liked to tell stories, if not embellish or outright invent! I too have always tended to swell the trait. Like her, I like to tell stories, either through moving or still images.
On the death of my mother, we found documents on the family, including my father who was an orphan. We have found traces of my grandparents who owned a haberdashery shop at Galeries Lafayette at the beginning of the last century before, like many, ruined by the implementation of the department store. A scenario worthy of the Ladies' explains somehow my interest in drawing and style inherited from my father. As for the love of rhythm and dance, it's my mother that I owe. This would tend to indicate that formal genetics is an exact science.
I never made the difference between the so-called minor or major Arts and has been for school. To me, inspiration has no boundaries. For example, I had the chance to know Jacques Prévert - which still has to this day influenced my work and especially my behavior. Prévert also remained very close to his roots and of the public who had seen him grow up. It is this kind of complicity that I ever wanted in my advertising work.

I like the idea of giving the urge to want to everyone. The saga of the Galeries Lafayette lasted twelve years. I'm glad that it continues to please.
When Philippe Michel - the legendary founder of CLM BBDO- contacted me in 1982, we started to talk about me. The One Man Show Grace Jones had triumphed at the Palace as Jungle Fever, my first book had just been published. Actually I did not really want to make calls at the time but I accepted, not only because I needed the money but because Philippe Michel gave me carte blanche. All this while Grace (Jones) went out on the courtyard side of the little theater of my existence, Farida (Khelfa) - I was immediately involved in my projects- doing his garden entrance.
And then there is always the playful dimension ...
I guess it's in my nature. I always tend to see the good side of things.
